In The Name Of GOD
Halloweentown’s Scariest Skeleton
On October 31 everybody in Halloweentown was excited. Dead people came up from under the ground. Everybody ran from the skeletons, from the sound of their long, thin arms and legs.
At the end of the Halloween night, everybody went to the center of town.
“Tonight was the best Halloween party in many years, and the hard work of one man made it possible” the Mayor of Halloweentown said.
Every year Jack repeated the same songs and moves and he was bored with Halloween. The people of the town liked him and they waited all year for this night.
Jack walked out of town and past the old churchyard. He walked past Sally, too, but he didn’t see her.
The doctor could move around in his chair but Sally had to cook for him. She did everything for him in the house.
“I scare people every year, Zero” Jack Skellington said quietly to his dog. “it’s boring and I’m tired. I don’t want to hear another scream. Why do I do it?”
“Now I understand…he’s bored,” Sally thought. “He wants to change his life…and I want to change mine, too.”
To night, Sally wants to run away with Jack.
A Door to a New World
Jack walked through the churchyard and into the dark woods. He walked for a long time and he thought about his future, without much hope.
After almost two hours, he stopped and looked around him. Jack was in the middle of some very large trees and each tree had a beautiful door in it.
One of the doors had a green tree with decorations on it. It was a Christmas tree.
Jack liked the door with the green tree and pretty decorations, so he moved nearer. But before he could put his hand on the door, it opened. A strong, cold winter wind pulled him inside the tree and the door closed quickly.
He stood on the top of a mountain and he looked down at a pretty little town. It was very different from Halloweentown.
“Nobody is afraid here!” Jack thought. “They aren’t screaming. Nobody’s dead!”
Jack felt very happy, too. He started to move down the mountain.
At the bottom of the mountain he sat for a minute an looked at the beautiful world in front of him.
“I want to see everything here!” he thought. “I want to run and jump! I want to sing! I’m not an old dead skeleton without feelings—I’m living again! But what happens in this place? I’m going to look around!”
It was morning in Halloweentown and the Mayor stood outside Jack’s house. He wanted to start making plans for next year’s celebrations. But Jack didn’t open his door. There were some vampires in the street, so he asked them about Jack. The vampires asked witches and skeletons around town.
Later that day everybody knew—Jack was not in Halloweentown! But where was he? Nobody leaves Halloweentown!
Jack’s Christmas Plans
On the night of December 24, the night before Christmas, everybody in Christmastown was very happy. Santa Claus came on this night every year with toys for good girls and boys.
Jack saw the children in their beds and he could see a Christmas tree in every house. He loved everythings in this place. Suddenly, he had a great idea.
“I’m going to go back to Halloweentown,” he thought “I’ve got a great plan!”
Sally was busy in her kitchen with the flowers for the Doctor’s medicine.
“He’ll sleep a long time after he drinks this,” she thought.
“Where’s my medicine?” the Doctor shouted.
“It’s almost ready,” she answered.
He put his nose near the cup and he suspect. But she gave him the cup. Then he fell asleep with his head on the table.
It was late at night but nobody in Halloweentown was asleep. They were very sad about Jack. The Mayor was the saddest because he couldn’t plan the next Halloweentown without Jack.
Suddenly, he heard a dog!
“Listen! Is that Zero?” shouted the Mayor.
Then another sound came from behind the large doors in the wall around Halloweentown. Where the doors opened, Jack arrived in a big red sleigh. The witches, skeletons, and vampire jumped up and down and laughed.
“I want everybody in town to come here in two hours.” Jack said loudly.
Sally was in the woods and when she heard about Jack, she went back into town.
“I want to tell you about a wonderful place! Its name is Christmastown,” Jack said.
He showed them Christmas tree. People can’t understand the Christmastown.
“how can I tell them about Christmas?” Jack thought.
Chemicals for Jack
Sally’s drink for the Doctor didn’t work very well.
Jack arrived in the morning. She tried to listen to the conversation between the Doctor and Jack. She couldn’t hear Jack very well, but she heard the Doctor.
“Take these chemicals, Jack, but be careful. They’re very dangerous. I made a mistake one time and…look at me in this chair.”
Jack took the bottles of chemicals and went home. He put the bottle over the fire and watched. Nothing happened. Then he cut some Christmas paper and put it into some red chemicals. He walked for hours, but he didn’t learn very much about Christmas.
Sally wanted to go to him and help him.
“I want to be his wife,” sally thought. “How can I get away from the Doctor? I can’t stay here!”
Sally stood at her window for a long time, without much hope.
When she hit the ground, one of her arms fell off. But she took the arm with her other hand and put it on again very quickly. Then she ran to Jack’s house as fast as she could. At the same minute, Jack looked down. Suddenly, he felt really happy-but why? He couldn’t understand.
Sally put her bottle into his mailbox and ran away. She couldn’t stay and talk to him. She wanted to but she couldn’t.
Jack watched her. when she was near the walls of town, Sally sat down.
“He likes me” she thought.
Suddenly, the little Christmas tree was on fire.
Jack’s Great Idea
Jack worked hard all night with the chemicals, but he didn’t find any answers to his questions. When it was almost morning, Jack found the answer. He ran to the Mayor’s house. The Mayor called everybody to the town’s center.
“We’re going to have Christmas in Halloweentown this year.” Said Jack.
They laughed and started discussing ideas for the cakes.
Jack’s Little Helpers
Lock, Shock, and Barrel were three young boys. They were Halloweentown’s famous trick-or-treaters. Nobody in town liked their boss, Oogie Boogie. He was a big round bag full of maggots!
He went around the woods and ate lot of animals. When he scared children, they ran to Jack.
Jack spoke very quietly into each boy’s ear.
Everybody in Halloweentown wanted to help with his Christmas plans. But Christmas was now in dangerous hands. Jack’s three young helpers had a very different idea about Christmas in Halloweentown-so the nightmare before Christmas was beginning.
Lock, Shock, and Barrel loved nightmare as much as they loved tricks.
Lock said, “He wants us to go to Christmastown and get Santa Claus? But we won’t give him to Jack!”
Shock had a better idea:
“We’ll get Santa Claus and put him in our biggest Halloween bag! We’ll bring him here and show him to Jack. But then we’ll give him to Oogie Boogie! He’ll really enjoy that big fat man for his dinner!”
